MetaTrader Platform Components

MetaTrader4

When you download MetaTrader 4, here's what you are getting:

Client Terminal

Brokerages provide real-time online trading and Demo (practice trading) accounts for this purpose. In real-time, trade operations, charts, and technical analysis are available.

The C-like internal programming language allows users to develop trading strategies, indicators, and signals in real-time. There are 50 basic indicators integrated into the program, each of which may be further customized. The software runs on Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista/7 with drivers provided by Nvidia and AMD Graphics Processing Unit drivers.

Mobile

It enables traders and investors to regulate trading accounts from mobile devices such as phones or PDAs. Runs on Windows Pocket PC 2002/Mobile 2003, iOS, Android.

Server

The server component is the heart of the system. It was created to handle user requests for trade operations, as well as to display and execute warrants. It also sends price quotations and news bulletins, records and archives events, and acts as a service.

Administrator

Made to manage the server settings remotely.

Manager

Manage customer accounts and trade inquiries.

Data Center

An intermediary proxy server often called a gateway or gateway proxy server is a type of software that acts as an interface between the client terminal and the server. It lightens the main server's cost quotation sending burden.

Functionalities

The MetaTrader 4 platform offers a wide range of features, which include:

  • An extensive range of indicators and charting tools
  • Customizable charts and templates
  • A variety of order types
  • Trade execution in real-time
  • Depth of market
  • The ability to trade on margin

The platform has been updated numerous times since its release in 2005 and remains one of the most popular trading platforms available today.

History of the Platform

The platform has undergone several versions since its inception in 2002, with each version being improved. Starting in 2002, the creator of the MetaQuotes Software development firm, which developed the current MetaTrader4 platform, released several versions of the MetaTrader system.

It was marketed as a one-stop shop for experienced traders seeking to access liquidity throughout various timeframes at both international and domestic exchange markets across more than 150 currency pairs.

Because of its popularity among traders and a large number of third-party scripts and advisors, many brokerages have chosen to include the MT4 platform as an alternative to their existing trading software from 2007 through 2010.

What is MetaTrader 5?

MetaTrader5

MetaTrader5 was released in 2010 as a successor to MetaTrader4. MetaTrader5 offered several new features and improvements, including:

  • A new user interface
  • The ability to trade stocks and commodities
  • The ability to trade forex, indices, and futures
  • The ability to use automated trading strategies

In October 2009, MetaTrader 5 was significantly updated and went into public beta testing. InstaForex opened the first live account on MT5 in September 2010.

Although MT5 was introduced in 2009, according to a study conducted in September 2019, MetaTrader4 was still the most popular Forex trading platform in the world at the time.

Conclusion

MetaTrader is a complex platform and may be more challenging to use than some of the other options available. It offers several features that may be helpful for traders who are comfortable using manual trading strategies. Not all brokers offer MetaTrader4, so you must check before signing up.
