Foundation

In 1996, both the Mellon Financial Corporation and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce formed a joint venture to provide institutional traders with asset servicing, CIBC Mellon. CIBC Mellon Global Securities Services Company and CIBC Mellon Trust Company are the two sister firms of CIBC Mellon.

The head office of CIBC Mellon is located at 1 York Street in Toronto. The lease from the fifth to the tenth floors is held by CIBC Mellon. In Canada, CIBC Mellon has satellite offices:

Services Offered

The investment servicing solutions that CIBC Mellon provides are custody, fund administration, multicurrency accounting, recordkeeping, exchange-traded fund services, foreign exchange processing and settlement, pension services, treasury services, and securities lending services.

CIBC Mellon managed C$2.5+ trillion in assets for banks, investment funds, pension funds,  governments, corporations, insurance companies, foundations, global financial institutions, and foreign insurance trusts as of March 31, 2022.

Structure

CIBC Mellon is a joint venture between BNY and CIBC Mellon that is split 50/50. So, the owners of it have little influence on CIBC Mellon.

And although both CMGSS and CMTC are in one building and function as one entity, each one of them features its own board of directors. On the other hand, the executive management team has control over the two companies.
